This lovely elephant is perfect for a heartfelt gift that you can make yourself, making it even more special! This pattern is beginner friendly and requires little sewing. You only need approx 90 minutes and a few materials. The colours will be referenced as the ones in the pictures but you can use any colour scheme you like.

Abbreviations
CH – Chain Stitch SC – Single Crochet
ST – Stitch FL – Front Loops
DEC – Decrease INC – Increase
SL ST – Slip Stitch MC – Magic Circle
(Sc, inc) x2 – Complete stitches inside the brackets the indicated number of times.

Materials
- ❤️ 3.5mm hook
- ❤️ 8 ply Chenille velvet yarn in pink and red yarn
- ❤️ White scrap yarn
- ❤️ 2mm Safety eyes or you can use black yarn
- ❤️ Stitch marker
- ❤️ Fabric glue or hot glue
- ❤️ 3 inch wire
- ❤️ Tapestry needle

Instructions
This pattern is mainly worked in continuous rounds without joining (unless stated otherwise). Use a stitch marker to mark the end of each round and move the marker up at the beginning of each round.
Legs (Make x2)
Using pink yarn, create MC.
Round 1. Sc 6 into MC (6)
Pull circle closed
Round 2. – Round 4. (3 rounds) Sc 6 (6)
Sl st, cut and tie.
Repeat round 1 to 4, do not cut off yarn. Sl st and turn work so that the inside of the leg is facing you, join both legs together with sc 2.
Cut and tie. Repeat so you have two sets of two legs.



Body
Take one pair of your legs and count 2 sc to the right from where you attached the legs together and attach pink yarn there.
We won’t work in continuous rounds for the next few rows, ch 1 & turn will determine the end of each round.
Round 1. Sc 2, sc into st joining legs, sc 2, ch 1 & turn (5)
Round 2. – Round 5. (4 rounds) Sc 5, ch 1 & turn (5)
Round 6. Attach the second set of legs with sc 2, sc into st joining legs together, sc 2 (5)



You will be working in continuous rounds again, move your stitch marker to the beginning of the next round.
Round 7. Sc into same st but only through the leg, continue around the leg with sc 2, sc into st joining legs together, sc 3 around next leg, sc 5 down the side of the belly, sc 2 around leg, sc into st joining legs, sc 2 around next leg, sc 5 down opposite side of belly (22)
Add filling in legs
Round 8. – Round 11. (4 rounds) Sc 22 (22)
Add stuffing

Round 12. Dec 11 (11)
Round 13. Sc 11 (11)
Add stuffing
Sl st, cut & tie leaving some yarn. With a tapestry needle, weave through the FL of the 11 sc and pull circle closed. Tie knot and weave in all ends.



Head
With pink yarn, make a MC.
Round 1. Sc 4 into MC (4)
Pull circle closed
Round 2. – Round 5. (4 rounds) Sc 4 (4)
Round 6. Sc 2, inc 2 (6)
Lightly add a little stuffing to the trunk

Round 7. Sc 4, inc 2 (8)
Round 8. Sc 4, inc 4 (12)
Round 9. Sc 4, inc 8 (20)
You can add a stitch marker on the next round, as this is where you will place the eyes

Round 10. – Round 12. (3 rounds) Sc 20 (20)
Round 13. (Sc 3, dec) x4 (16)
Sl st, cut & tie. Leave some yarn for sewing.
Add your eyes between rounds 9 & 10 with 3 sc in-between.

Ears (make x2)
With pink yarn, make a MC.
Round 1. Sc 6 into MC (6)
Pull circle closed
Round 2. Inc 6 (12)
Round 3. (Sc, inc) x6 (18)
Sl st, cut and tie. Leave some yarn.
Take a tapestry needle and attach your ears on each side of the head through sc 3.



Fix the head into position with pins and then sew onto the body using a tapestry needle. Weave in all ends.


Heart
With red yarn, create a MC.
Round 1. Sc 4 into MC (4)
Pull circle closed
Round 2. Inc 4 (8)
Round 3. Sc 8 (8)
Cut and tie. Weave in ends.
Repeat round 1 to 3.

Join together with sc 2
Move marker to beginning of next round
Round 4 – Round 5. (2 rounds) Sc 14 (14)
Round 6. Dec 7 (7)
Round 7. Sc 7 (7)
Sl st, cut and tie. Leave some yarn and weave through the FL of the sc 7 with a tapestry needle and pull circle closed.



Add glue on your wire but leave approximately half an inch clear. Tightly twist your scrap yarn around the wire where the glue is.
Add glue to the wire where there is no yarn and place inside the bottom of the heart.


Feed the wire through the trunk of your elephant and then fold the trunk so it looks like it is holding the stick. Use glue or some yarn to keep in position.
